ABA, NIGERIA — Young women from across Southeast Nigeria have taken center stage in the global technology space. At a regional pitch event hosted by TechRookies on Friday, May 22, 2026, in Aba, Abia State, 40 teams of girls aged 8–18 from the five southeastern states gathered to present mobile applications and artificial intelligence solutions tackling real community problems. After a rigorous judging process by industry leaders, four teams emerged victorious and will now advance to the global virtual semi-final round of the Technovation Girls Competition.
The regional event capped a four-month educational curriculum in which participants identified critical community problems and engineered tech-driven solutions. The program was supported by TechRookies, an EdTech social enterprise focused on equipping children with digital and problem-solving skills. Across the 40 teams, the solutions addressed challenges spanning health, education, climate change, environmental sustainability, and gender equity.
