Google announced that university students in Nigeria and seven other African countries will get one year of free access to its AI Pro plan, which includes advanced tools such as Deep Research and Gemini 2.5 Pro. The program targets students aged 18 and above in higher institutions, aiming to prepare them for an AI-driven economy.
For Rivers State, this means students at Uniport, RSU, and other tertiary institutions can now tap into world-class AI tools for research, assignments, coding, and academic writing without financial barriers.

At the University of Port Harcourt, where thousands of students juggle demanding coursework and limited access to research materials, AI Pro’s Deep Research could drastically cut the time needed to gather reliable academic content.
