Moving around Lagos is rarely easy. Between heavy traffic jams, unpredictable delivery riders, and rideshare drivers who cancel at the last minute, commuting in Nigeria's commercial hub can be stressful.

Now, the global ride-hailing company inDrive wants to tackle these issues head-on. The platform recently appointed popular content creator and media personality Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, widely known as KieKie, as its new Chief Wahala Officer.

While the job title sounds funny, the campaign is a serious marketing move. The ride-hailing platform launched a search for someone to fill this unique role, and the response was massive. More than 450 Nigerians applied for the job, hoping to represent the voice of the everyday commuter.

Ultimately, the company chose KieKie for her ability to connect with people through humour and honesty.

Timothy Oladimeji, the country manager for inDrive Nigeria, said the company chose KieKie because she is relatable and authentic. He explained that Lagos transportation comes with daily challenges, or wahala. The company needed someone who could talk about these real problems in a way that makes people laugh while still telling the truth.

In her new role, KieKie will lead a public conversation about urban transportation challenges under the social media hashtag #inDriveCWO. Her main job is to encourage Lagos residents to share their daily commuting experiences, from long delays to pricing frustrations. The goal is to bring more public attention to the reality of moving around the city and find better ways to make trips smoother.

KieKie expressed excitement about her new position. “I am finally happy to announce that I am the Chief Wahala Officer. My dear Lagosians, any delivery or ride-hailing wahala you may be facing is now in the past. Don’t worry, I am on duty, which means everything will go back to normal,” she added.

By using a familiar and funny voice, the ride-hailing company hopes to build a stronger community. Instead of just offering rides, the company wants to show that it understands exactly what its passengers experience on the road every day.
