Jeff Bezos-led group nears deal for one-third stake in Liverpool FC
A consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is close to acquiring a roughly 30% minority stake in Premier League club Liverpool, multiple outlets report.
A consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is close to agreeing a deal to acquire a stake of about one-third in Premier League club Liverpool, according to multiple media reports published Monday.
The reported deal
Reuters reported that a "consortium including the Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is close to agreeing a deal to acquire a stake of about one-third" in the club, while BBC Sport said the group "has advanced its talks to buy about a 30% stake." The reported transaction values Liverpool at approximately £4.4 billion, or about $6 billion.
The consortium is led and represented by Amit Bhatia, a British-Indian businessman and former Queens Park Rangers co-owner, and is also reported to include Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. The club's controlling shareholder, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), issued a narrow statement in late July confirming only that "an investment consortium led, managed and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club," according to The Guardian. FSG did not publicly confirm Bezos by name in that statement.
Context and background
FSG, founded and principally owned by John W. Henry, has owned Liverpool since acquiring the club for £300 million in 2010. According to the club's official directors page, FSG is the sole controller of The Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Limited through wholly owned or controlled subsidiaries, with John Henry and RB Rouge Aggregator LP the only investors holding more than 10% in FSG.
This is not FSG's first move to bring in outside minority capital. In September 2023, the group sold a separate minority stake to Dynasty Equity in a deal worth between £82 million and £164 million, representing roughly 3% to 4% of the club. The earlier investment signaled FSG's willingness to accept outside partners while retaining majority control, a pattern the current consortium discussions follow. Reports in July 2026 had first identified the Bhatia-led group, backed by Lakshmi Mittal interests, before subsequent August coverage elevated Bezos's participation, as noted by the Financial Times.
What's next
While the reports described the deal as close to completion and indicated FSG was preparing an announcement, no final transaction had been formally confirmed at the time of the reports. The valuation range suggests the roughly one-third stake would be worth between £1.35 billion and £2 billion, depending on the final structure.
