Mastercard and BMONI Introduce Multi-Currency Cards in Nigeria
Nigeria’s digital payment space has taken another big step forward. Mastercard, a global leader in payments, has partnered with BMONI, a smart digital wallet, to roll out new multi-currency payment cards. These cards are available in both Naira and US dollars, making it easier for Nigerians to pay for goods and services locally and abroad.
The cards come in both virtual and physical formats, giving users flexibility depending on their needs. Through the BMONI mobile app, people can instantly create multiple virtual cards for different purposes such as travel, subscriptions, online shopping, or everyday spending. This feature helps users manage their money better by tracking expenses in real time and customising card settings
Folasade Femi-Lawal, Mastercard’s country manager for West Africa, explained that the partnership supports Nigeria’s digital transformation. She highlighted that the cards provide instant access, multi-currency flexibility, and smooth cross-border transactions.
Ashwin Ravichandran, BMONI’s head of product, added that the goal is to remove barriers between people and their money. By combining Mastercard’s global reach with BMONI’s AI-powered platform, Nigerians now have access to international financial tools that were previously out of reach.
This launch comes at a time when Nigeria’s e-commerce market is growing rapidly. More people are shopping online and need reliable payment solutions that work across borders. The new cards are expected to boost financial inclusion, giving consumers more control and confidence when making payments.
The partnership also reflects a wider trend in Africa where fintech companies are teaming up with global payment networks to expand access to digital finance. With services like these, Nigerians can expect smoother experiences when paying for international services, booking travel, or managing subscriptions.
The service is already live and can be accessed directly through the BMONI app, making it simple for users to start using the cards right away.
