Moniepoint Acquires Orda Africa to Expand Solutions for food Service Businesses

By bringing Orda into its ecosystem, Moniepoint is moving from being just the "payment guy" at the counter to an all-in-one partner that helps restaurants run their entire operation.

Moniepoint has officially acquired Orda Africa, a cloud-based software company that helps restaurants run their entire business. This move is a big deal because it combines Moniepoint’s massive payment network with Orda’s specialised tools for the food industry.

Here is the full breakdown of what this means.

Who is Orda Africa?

Founded in 2020 by Guy Futi and his team, Orda Africa was built to be the "operating system" for restaurants. Before Orda, most small African restaurants managed their sales and food stock with pen and paper.

Orda changed that by creating a platform where a restaurant owner can:

  • Track every meal sold.

  • Connect their kitchen to delivery apps like Glovo or Jumia Food.

  • Manage their inventory so they don’t run out of ingredients.

The company has raised $4.5 million in funding over the years and currently powers over 1,500 restaurants, including big names like KFC Nigeria and Cold Stone Creamery.

Why Moniepoint is Making This Move

Africa’s food service industry is worth about $50 billion. In Nigeria alone, people are expected to spend $19.3 billion at restaurants by 2030.

Moniepoint is already a giant in payments, processing over $250 billion a year, but they want to do more than just process cards. By acquiring Orda, they are moving into the restaurant's "back office".

In 2025, Moniepoint launched Moniebook, a tool for general business record-keeping. Now, Orda will be integrated into this platform to create "Moniebook for Restaurants." This creates a "one-stop shop" where a restaurant owner doesn't need five different apps. Everything from the POS terminal to the kitchen display will live in one ecosystem.

What Changes for Restaurant Owners?

If you run a food business, this acquisition brings three major upgrades:

1. Better Loans (Performance-Based Financing)

Because Orda tracks exactly how much food you sell every day, Moniepoint can use that data to offer loans. Instead of asking for collateral you might not have, they can see your sales history and give you the credit you need to expand.

2. Everything is Connected

  • Inventory: Real-time tracking across different branches. If one branch is low on chicken, the system can alert you or even automate a re-order.

  • Microsites: You get tools to build your own branded website so customers can order from you directly instead of just through third-party apps.

  • Staff Control: You can set different access levels for waiters, cooks, and managers to keep things secure.

3. No More Manual Paperwork

The system creates deep reports on your peak sales hours and top-selling meals. This helps owners spend less time on admin work and more time focused on the food.

What’s Next?

For existing Orda customers, the transition will be smooth. Guy Futi (Co-Founder and CEO of Orda) has assured users that there will be no service interruptions or price changes. The main difference is that users will now have access to Moniepoint’s banking infrastructure and faster support.

As Tosin Eniolorunda (CEO of Moniepoint) put it, this is about helping African food entrepreneurs reach their full potential by giving them the same high-tech tools used by global chains.
