Nigeria Completes World-Class NTA Studio in Abuja Upgrade

Information Minister Mohammed Idris inspected a newly completed world-class television studio at Nigerian Television Authority headquarters and ongoing upgrades at the National Press Centre in Abuja on Monday, July 27, 2026.
Idris described the studio as one of the best in Nigeria and among the finest on the African continent, linking both projects to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to modernizing public information infrastructure.
The minister toured the NTA facilities and the National Press Centre at Radio House after the inspection. He stated that the investments form part of broader efforts to reposition government-owned media for quality public service broadcasting. The studio ranks among Africa's top broadcast facilities and belongs to a wider programme covering the Nigerian Television Authority, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria and News Agency of Nigeria. Ongoing procurement of modern broadcast equipment for NTA stations nationwide will improve content, professionalism, innovation and human capacity development, Idris added.
These upgrades arrive as the Federal Government relaunched the Digital Switch Over programme. The DSO platform was formally launched at NIGCOMSAT headquarters in Abuja, with plans to deploy 90,000 km of fibre-optic infrastructure and two additional communications satellites. The minister tied the NTA studio and Press Centre work to the same national push for credible information and international standards.
The projects change daily operations for journalists and broadcasters. NTA gains capacity for higher-quality production and multi-channel output. The renovated National Press Centre will offer world-class facilities and high-speed internet as Nigeria's foremost media hub for covering government and national events. Government media organizations including FRCN, VON and NAN receive parallel investments. Content creators and advertisers gain expanded reach and new revenue streams once DSO is fully implemented. Local manufacturing and job creation in the creative sector stand to benefit from the digital transition.
"What we have seen today is the fulfilment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's promise to modernise Nigeria's public broadcasting facilities. This is one of the best studios in Nigeria and among the finest on the African continent," the Minister said.
Contractors must finish the National Press Centre on schedule. Idris said he will conduct a final inspection before commissioning. The ministry will continue equipment rollout across NTA stations and parallel upgrades at FRCN, VON and NAN while monitoring DSO rollout metrics for audience reach and local content growth.
