Rivers State University, RSU, officially entered a new digital era on Friday, June 26, 2026.

The university management officially launched 11 brand-new mobile applications and digital platforms on Friday, aiming to completely change how students and staff handle daily school activities.

This massive rollout is part of a broad tech project called the Rivers State Digital Initiative. The goal is simple: transform RSU into a smart, paperless campus where operations are seamless and efficient.

The Visionaries Behind the Tech

This digital milestone is the result of continuous leadership. The initiative was originally pioneered and initiated by the former Vice Chancellor, Prof. B. B Fakae. Professor Fakae laid the groundwork for the university's digital agenda years ago. That original vision has now been brought to reality under the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, popularly known as the Digital VC, who led the official deployment of these modern tools to push RSU toward global competitiveness.

Built by RSU Alumni

In a proud moment for the institution, the entire software suite was built by Cinfores Limited, an information technology company based in Port Harcourt. Interestingly, the tech experts at Cinfores who developed these systems are former students of RSU themselves. Their transition from RSU students to tech partners highlights the university's success in breeding top-tier local talent capable of solving complex problems.

A Look Inside the 11 Digital Platforms

The newly released applications address different sectors of campus life, ensuring that everything from classrooms to the school clinic runs smoothly. The 11 core systems include:

V-Learning Platform: A virtual learning management system that lets lecturers teach and assess students online, while giving students flexible access to learning materials.

RSU e-Campus Aspire Mobile App: A mobile tool that lets students pay school fees, register courses, and check semester results on their smartphones.

MedixTrak: A health management system designed to fully digitize patient records, prescriptions, and lab results at the RSU Medical Centre.

RSU Alumni Website: A digital hub built to connect past students for networking, career mentorship, and university support.

Computer for All Programme (CAP): A platform managing affordable instalment plans so that every student and staff member can own a personal computer.

RSU Innovation Hub Portal: A digital gateway for students to sign up and learn global skills like data science, product design, and cybersecurity.

e-Admission Portal: Streamlines the entry process for new applicants, making screening and feedback fast and transparent.

e-Transcript System: Speeds up academic record processing, reducing the time graduates spend waiting for transcripts.

e-Accommodation Portal: Handles hostel allocations digitally to ensure fair and clear room sharing.

e-Voting Platform: Powers secure, electronic Student Union Government elections without the need for paper ballots.

Staff HR Portal: Digitizes staff records, promotions, and training modules for easier university administration.

During the launch event, the university management emphasized that this move is about improving the day-to-day experience of the campus community. Security was a major focus during development because the apps handle sensitive student identities, financial fees, and official grading records.

Students and staff are expected to begin onboarding onto the new platforms immediately. While the sudden transition to a fully digital system might require a short learning curve, campus leaders are confident that this tech upgrade will make the institution a leader in modern education.
