Businesses can now run AI security over old CCTV, as Sorveo goes live in Lagos
Lagos startup Sorveo has launched an AI platform that plugs into existing CCTV cameras, offering real-time facial and plate recognition without replacing hardware.
Sorveo, a Lagos-based AI video intelligence startup, has launched a platform in Nigeria that turns existing CCTV systems into real-time security and operational monitoring tools, the company announced via a brand press item on Techpoint Africa.
The platform integrates with IP, NVR, hybrid, and ONVIF-compatible cameras, scanning faces, license plates, and movements to provide instant insights and alerts. The company says its system does not require a full hardware replacement, a key selling point for African operators with mixed-vendor camera deployments.
Why this matters
The launch reflects a growing class of local AI surveillance vendors targeting enterprise security needs in markets with limited appetite for rip-and-replace projects. Sorveo is explicitly positioning itself for banks, hotels, estates, retail stores, warehouses, universities, healthcare facilities, and government sites that have already invested in CCTV but lack modern analytics.
The startup has already gone live with a pilot deployment at EbonyLife Place in Lagos. “We’re excited to announce that Sorveo has officially gone live in #Lagos with a pilot deployment at EbonyLife Place,” said Iso Bassey in a public post. “We are currently working with a small number of organisations as part of our early pilot programme.”
What the platform does
According to Sorveo’s website, the AI-powered system offers facial recognition, license plate recognition, camera health monitoring, watchlists, and instant notifications. The company frames it as a tool that “transforms existing CCTV infrastructure into real-time intelligence — helping organisations detect and respond to events proactively,” Bassey said.
While the company's marketing materials claim AI-powered CCTV platforms are operational across Nigerian malls and banks, South African estates, Kenyan corporate sites, Ghanaian retail, Rwandan public infrastructure, and Egyptian logistics hubs, these are not independently verified deployments. The confirmed live footprint so far is the Lagos pilot and a small number of early partners.
