The Federal Government has launched a new consumer credit programme designed to help Nigerians buy laptops, smartphones, and other digital devices without paying the full cost upfront.
The initiative, known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices Programme, also called C.L.I.C.K.D., is a partnership between the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP, and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. It forms part of the government's plan to improve digital access and encourage more Nigerians to participate in the digital economy.
The programme allows eligible applicants to spread the cost of approved digital devices over time through structured consumer credit. Government officials say this approach will remove one of the biggest barriers preventing many Nigerians from owning devices needed for work, education, remote jobs, and digital businesses.
According to the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, digital devices have become essential tools for learning, productivity, and economic growth. He said expanding access to affordable credit will help more Nigerians develop digital skills and improve their income opportunities.
The programme will begin with locally assembled laptops before expanding to other devices. This move is expected to support local manufacturing while creating jobs within Nigeria's technology sector. During the official launch in Abuja, CREDICORP announced that 1,000 locally assembled laptops would be distributed to eligible participants under the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme. The first batch of beneficiaries has already started receiving their devices.
Who can apply?
The scheme is targeted at eligible Nigerians who need digital devices for work, learning, or business. The government is working with participating financial institutions to process applications and manage repayments. More categories of applicants are expected to be added as the programme expands.

Applicants are expected to:
Visit the CREDICORP application portal.
Complete the online application with the required personal information.
Choose a participating financial institution where applicable.
Submit the requested documents for verification.
Wait for eligibility assessment and approval before receiving the approved device on instalment.
Government officials have not announced a single repayment plan for every applicant. Payment terms will depend on the financing arrangement and the eligibility assessment conducted by participating financial institutions.
The initiative builds on earlier CREDICORP digital device financing pilots, which helped more than 1,000 Nigerians obtain smartphones through affordable credit before the programme expanded nationwide. Officials say the next phase aims to reach thousands more Nigerians as access to digital tools becomes increasingly important for education, remote work, entrepreneurship, and public services.
As the cost of laptops and smartphones continues to rise, the government hopes the new scheme will make digital devices more affordable while supporting Nigeria's broader digital transformation goals.
